DandyRandy. I do believe a Marlin 30 AW is a 336A. It is basically the same rifle as the other 336 models except the stock is walnut stained regular wood instead of real walnut. The furniture is a little different like the forearm end cap is blued steel. Essentially it is an economy version of the 336. Just as good a rifle with less frills.

A .30-30 is no long range sniper caliber, and I'd say any attempts to make it into a 250+ yard rifle is a waste of time. I put a scope on my .30-30 to work up the most accurate load, then removed it after that was accomplished and use iron sights. It is what it is - a fast handling close-to-150 yard carbine.

Posts: 29,250. OMAHA. A quick scan of the Marlin 30AS and Glenfield 30 on GB should give you an idea what they are selling for. IIRC, the Marlin 30AS is the same a the Glenfield 30, a 336 with stained hardwood (birch?) stock and forearm and the front sight is installed via a barrel dovetail, rather than a ramp, that sold at a lower price.
